March, 2001  A donated Appropriate Energy system was installed at the base of Mount Everest to supply energy for the Pheriche clinic. This is the highest hybrid renewable power system in the world at 4,300 m (14,000ft).

November, 2001 Friends of the Earth, Hong Kong, worked with Appropriate Energy to install a solar powered aviation obstruction light for wind monitoring on one of Hong Kong's out lying islands.

November, 2001  China Light and Power installed a Synergy remote area power system on Shek Kwu Chau Island. This is Hong Kong's first hybrid renewable power, and will be used as an educational and demonstration facility.

February, 2002  Winafrique installed their first Synergy remote area power system at Chepsengeny Academy, Kenya. This is hopefully the first of many systems to come.
