5 IATA OVER FLIGHT BEACON-POWER SYSTEMS AFGHANISTAN
LOCATION
In the spring of 2000, 5 Appropriate Energy power systems were installed in Afghanistan. They were installed by IATA trained personnel for over flight beacons. The systems ranged from simple diesel battery hybrids to wind/solar/diesel hybrids. The equipment was designed to meet the strict IATA requirements for over flight beacons in remote situations. Each site has at least one level of redundancy to ensure 24-hour power for all the sites.

THE SYSTEMS
The systems were required to provide 24 hours of sustainable 220V AC power for over flight beacon systems.
The systems were a variety of diesel battery hybrids, grid connect systems and stand alone renewable hybrid systems. The systems were set up to provide quality sine wave power for high tech overhead beacon equipment.
INSTALLATION
The installation was preformed by IATA personnel trained by Appropriate Energy. The installations took place during the spring of 2000.
